The customer

The packaging machines business division from a world-leading manufacturer of machinery and equipment.

The challenge

The company is seeking for expansion potential for its current packaging technology outside of the existing core market. For that reason, it is important to be able to identify emerging or growing markets and to analyse the competitive situation strategically.

The solution

In a client workshop, GVM works together with the customer to determine the technological requirements for the potential target markets. Based on those criteria, GVM then carries out the analysis using its database “Market Volume of Packaging” and develop a tool for standardized evaluation of target markets in term of market potential, market dynamics and technological feasibility.

In the second stage of the project, consultants from sciendea+, our strategic partner, identify direct and indirect competitors, determine their market shares, sales, EBIT margins, products, target markets, technological performance and the success factors of the respective business models and present those in detailed profiles.

Finally, expansion scenarios are developed and strategically evaluated based on the sustainable implementation and probability of success.

The result

The study provides the customer with an overview of market trends, potential and competitive structures in the target markets relevant to their existing products and thus forms a solid basis for a sustainable expansion strategy.
