Obstacles to the use of recyclates in plastic packaging
The proportion of recycled material (or so called recyclate) in plastic packaging is less than 10%. In order to better understand why this is the case, the climate protection campaign in retail commissioned GVM to conduct a study. The results were presented at a parliamentary breakfast in Berlin on April 9th. The study concludes that sustainable improvements for the situation of plastic recyclates would come in particular from the establishment of binding, accepted and enforceable quality standards as well as the acceleration and de-bureaucratization of the approval of recyclates with food contact.
