The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) has published a study conducted by GVM on the consumption volume of transport packaging in Germany. Transport packaging accounts for 30% of packaging consumption in Germany. The study also evaluated potential savings of transport packaging with the use of reusable packaging. Further information and the report can be found on the website of NABU: https://www.nabu.de/transportverpackungen

In March, the German Youth Championships (U15) in table tennis took place in Wiesbaden. During which, the young players exhibited impressive sport performances. GVM financially supported the event as a gold sponsor.
We delightedly congratulate TTC Rot-Weiss 1921 Biebrich on the success of the professionally organized tournament.

GVM has gathered twelve notions/statements from different stakeholders/ parties/ participants/ players as part of the project “Life Cycle Assessment for Optimization Potential of Beverage Packaging” from the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA). We are grateful for the diverse and profound contributions to the discussion and will examine them in detail together with other project partners.

GVM discussed in three workshops with industry experts the approach to determine recycling quotas according to the new specifications of the EU Implementing Decision (EU) 2019/665. GVM would like to thank all participants for the numerous comments and explanations.

The study implements/clarifies/interprets the new requirements of the EU Implementing Decision
(EU) 2019/665 of April 17, 2019 for the first time in Germany.

The food magazine LZ – Lebensmittelzeitung publishes the specialist article “Saving potential lies idle in packaging design” by Nicolas Cayé (GVM) and Benedikt Kauertz (ifeu Institute) on the potential saving in oversized packaging

44,000 tons of packaging material could be saved if oversized packaging and unnecessary additional packaging were avoided. This is the result of a study conducted by GVM and the IFEU Institute and was recently published by the Federation of German Consumer Organizations. The report of the study can be downloaded here.

41.8% of the beverages consumed in Germany in 2019 were filled in reusable packaging. That is 0.6 percentage points higher than in the previous year. The full report is available for download from the German Environment Agency UBA. You can read more information in the GVM-Focus: Reusable Rate 2019.

Beverage cans are very popular on the market. In 2019, 4.5 billion units of beverage cans were brought into circulation in Germany. Their recycling rate is extraordinarily high: aluminum beverage cans reach a recycling rate of 99.3%, while tinplate beverage cans of 99.7%. Among the garbage that was carelessly thrown into the environment, beverage cans make up only 0.03% and is therefore almost negligible.

This is the result of a new study carried out by GVM on behalf of DAVR GmbH, the Forum Flaschendose GbR and ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein GmbH. The full report can be found here.

At the online events “Circular Economy Info Series” of IK – Industrieverband Kunststoffverpackungen e.V. (German Association of Plastics Packaging Industry) and “VVD meets Freisinger Tage” of Fraunhofer IVV, GVM presents the results of a new study on the potential of replacing plastic packaging with paper-based composites. In the study on behalf of IK, substitution analysis was made to anticipate how much plastic packaging will be replaced by paper composites by 2025, then explanation for that was provided using clear examples, subsequently the effects of substitution on recyclability and waste generation were addressed.
