UBA publishes the study “Examining and updating of the life cycle assessment for beverage packaging”
The final report published by the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA) documents the scientific background and the derivation of minimum requirements for life cycle assessments for beverage packaging. This should help to harmonize both the implementation and the assessment of such life cycle assessments based on their environmental impact profiles. The requirements apply above all to life cycle assessments that are submitted to the UBA. In particular, it should be ensured that the packaging systems examined are up-to-date and as representative as possible on the German market. The study was carried out by ifeu, integrahl and GVM. The GVM’s contribution to the study was mainly on the topics of beverage segments, packaging systems, packaging weights, number of trips/ rotations, and distribution.
