6.1 billion carrier bags in Germany
In 2012, 6.1 billion plastic carrier bags were handed out in Germany by retailers to their customers, according to the results of a study conducted by GVM on behalf of the BKV, HDE and IK. That corresponds to 76 carrier bags per person per year and is far below the EU average of 198 carrier bags. As part of the dialogue event “Disposable Carrier Bags”, the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA) provided the opportunity to present the results of the study.
